Pakistanis largely disapprove of the U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden, with a majority believing the al-Qaida chief’s death is a bad thing and relations between Washington and Islamabad will suffer as a result, new polling data show.

The findings of two Pew Research Center surveys reflect widespread anti-Americanism in a country where many view the U.S. as the main reason for rising Islamist violence that has killed thousands, even as many of the same Pakistanis hold the militants behind such attacks in low regard.

The survey results also show a deep pessimism among Pakistanis about the future of their nation and the caliber of their leaders. Roughly nine in 10 Pakistanis say they are dissatisfied with the direction the country is heading.

Ordinary Pakistanis also were stunned by their military’s seeming impotence during the incident, though the Pew surveys show that the army remains widely popular, or at least more popular than the country’s civilian leadership.

Today, just 37 percent of Pakistanis support using the army to fight militant groups in the lawless tribal regions bordering Afghanistan or other parts of the northwest. Fewer Pakistanis than in past surveys are very or somewhat worried that extremist groups will take over the country — two years ago, 69 percent expressed such concern, while now it is 55 percent.

Nonetheless, extremist groups are generally unpopular among Pakistanis. Just 12 percent view al-Qaida in a positive light, while both Pakistan and Afghan Taliban groups receive favorability ratings of less than 20 percent.

Lashkar-e-Taiba, a banned militant outfit that has been suspected of involvement in attacks on India is better perceived: 27 percent of Pakistanis surveyed view the group favorably, while 37 percent view it unfavorably.

In fact, 57 percent of Pakistanis polled said they saw India as a bigger threat to their country than the Taliban or al-Qaida. The two nuclear-armed nations have fought three wars since they gained independence from Britain in 1947.

Wholesale Islamic modernization and reformation for starters.

Of course-- but that raises another question-- how to implement that? Any attempts towards reform from the outside will be resisted-- but OTOH, as this articles points out-- so many are so rigid in their values...many even still love bin Laden!!! :-(

    Father died, Children crying

Funeral prayers in absentia were offered for slain Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in various mosques in Jammu and Kashmir capital Srinagar and other towns after the congregational Friday prayers.

The call for holding funeral prayers for Osama was given by notorious Pakistani Agent and so-called Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. It is a well known fact that Geelani & like minded idiots are paid millions by Pakistan's notorious intelligence service ISI to speak against India & Western Countries.

Geelani held funeral prayers for the slain terrorist in Batmaloo area, saying it was his religious duty to hold prayers for the "martyr".

Geelani, who had on Thursday asked people to hold prayers for the slain Al Qaeda leader, held the funeral prayers, led by a local Imam, amongst hundreds of people after the Friday prayers.

After the funeral prayers at Batmaloo, Geelani also prayed for the safety of Pakistan, saying it was an atomic Muslim country facing threat from the entire world.

Hundreds offer funeral prayers for Osama bin Laden in Karachi

Hundreds of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) activists on Tuesday offered funeral prayers for slain Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden on one of Karachi's busiest roads, calling him a "martyr of Islam".

The funeral prayer in absentia for Osama was held amid heavy presence of police and para-military as nearly a thousand supporters of the banned Hafiz Saeed led Jamat ud Dawah descended on the streets.

The supporters held the funeral prayer and chanted slogans calling Osama bin Laden a martyr of Islam.

"He is a martyr of Islam and laid down his live for Muslims. He fought for Muslims," Engineer Naved Qamar, the Ameer of JuD Karachi said.

Bin Laden death 'only the beginning', British Islamists warn

To a radical few, Osama bin Laden was a hero – but mainstream Muslims will remember him as a rebel who lost his way.

British Muslims seduced by extremist forms of Islam have celebrated Osama bin Laden as a spiritual and military warrior.

In his suicide video address, Mohammad Siddique Khan, the leader of the bombers who attacked London on 7 July 2005, said he prayed God would raise him up to join "today's heroes, like our beloved Sheikh Osama bin Laden".

In public, Abu Hamza, the hook-handed preacher who once held sway over dozens of committed jihadists, including the shoe bomber Richard Reed, praised Bin Laden and his actions.

Like other Islamist leaders in the UK, Hamza used Bin Laden's life story – the millionaire who gave up everything to fight jihad – as a recruiting tool to inspire young British men who may have seen themselves as living in a privileged society without spiritual purpose.

Like I care what people in Pakistan think. Do you believe they care what we think? That POS pig is dead, rotting at the bottom of the ocean just like a chunk of whale feces.
Time to cut off any and all aid to Pakistan (and Afghanistan), pack it up, and come home.
