SAVE the Innocent People of Gilgit Baltistan, a UN territory, from the gallows of Pakistan

On behalf of the two million people of Gilgit Baltistan (Pakistan occupied Kashmir) I have the honour to draw your kind attention towards some gross root human rights violations, committed by Pakistan in this region.

Gilgit Baltistan can be called a UN territory, owing to the historic fact that UN resolutions of 13th August 1948 and 5th Jan 1949 about this region are still pending. Pakistan’s current role in Gilgit Baltistan is a clear violation of UN, which had ordered Pakistan to withdraw its forces and civilians from the occupied area, under the obligation to UNCIP Truce Terms of 28th April 1949.

The fate of the 2 million people in the limbo due to enmity between India and Pakistan on territorial dispute. The people of Gilgit Baltistan are the most sufferer and their fundamental, legal, ethnic, cultural, economic and democratic rights are being denied.

India has included this region in to its Constitution but it do nothing for the improvement of the misery of the people, while Pakistan has denied all fundamental, legal, ethnic, cultural, economic and democratic rights for the last 63 years.

I appeal your honour to send a fact-finding mission to Gilgit Baltistan to ascertain, why these people are being given death sentences by Pakistani regime, despite having no legal rights to rule over this region. These so-called judges are being appointed on contract basis by the Minister and Sectary of Kashmiri and Gilgit Baltistan Affairs and Prime Minister of Pakistan, who has not been chosen by the vote of the people of Gilgit Baltistan.

Secondly, a Terrorist Court has been established in this peaceful part of Jammu & Kashmir where not even a single case of terrorism has been reported so far, while Pakistan has not been able to establish terrorists Courts on its own soil, where terrorism is a routine. All these extra-Judicial killings and atrocities are to press the indigenous people of Gilgit Baltistan, so that nobody dares to oppose the occupation of Pakistan.

UN should implement its resolutions and put pressure on Pakistan to immediately withdraw its troops and civilians from Gilgit Baltistan in compliance with these resolutions.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Ties with Jammu & Kashmir, historical and contemporary

This article will help understand relationship of Gilgit-Baltistan with Kashmir in both historical and contemporary context. The inhabitants of Gilgit-Baltistan have historically established cultural and commercial links with those living in Kashmir and Ladakh even before the Maharajas of Jammu-Kashmir brought Gilgit-Baltistan under their sway. Historical records state that the Mons of north India used Kashmir as a platform to introduce Hinduism and Buddhism in Gilgit-Baltistan. In the same manner, Nurbaxshi and Shia forms of Islam also arrived in Gilgit-Baltistan from Kashmir.

The Nurbaxshi order of Sufism is unique in South Asia and during earlier times, it was only prevalent in Kashmir valley, Baltistan and Ladakh. When Mirza Gorgan of Xinjiang conquered Kashmir, he massacred thousands of Kashmiris professing Nurbaxshi faith and forced them to escape to the valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan and Ladakh. Those who survived the genocide were forced to convert to a more puritanical form of Islam. Today, one can find followers of Nurbaxshi faith in the valleys of Nubra, Dras, Chorbat, Khapulo, Shigar, Thale, Hushe, Saltoro and Sermik. On the other hand, the Shia preachers who arrived from Kashmir found relatively greater freedom and as a result, were able to convert the predominant population of Gilgit-Baltistan to their sect. Even today, Shias and Nurbaxshis of Gilgit-Baltistan adhere to Kashmiri practices especially while performing certain mourning rituals during the sacred month of Muharram.

Unfortunately, over the years a political culture has been established that one has to overlook what Pakistani governments have done to the Kashmiris and continue to do so, but should actively and forcefully criticise India; in order to get a ‘certificate’ of being loyal to the cause of people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Gilgit Baltistan A Battleground For A Future War

Gilgit Baltistan, a region which is legally part of former Princely State of Jammu and Kashmir; and which is illegally occupied by Pakistan. I don’t know how to criticise India for what Pakistan and China are doing in Gilgit Baltistan.

Pakistan's Colonial Attitude Keeps Gilgit Baltistan Backward video

Gilgit, November 02: People of Gilgit Baltistan are increasingly becoming frustrated with Pakistan’s policy of exploiting its natural resources while denying them even basic amenities and human rights. Increased exploitation and corruption are fuelling a sense of denial and deprivation among the residents of the region.
