A couple from Oldham have appeared in court charged with offences under the Terrorism Act.

Mohammed Sajid Khan, 33, and his wife Shasta Khan, 37, from Foster Street, are accused of engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place between August 2010 and July 2011.

They are due to appear at the Old Bailey on 22 August. Mr Khan has been remanded in custody.

For decades, and particularly in this part of Northern England and its neighbour in parts of Yorkshire and the Midlands, successive Labour and Conservative governments have been responsible for wave after wave of Muslim immigrants – with some large towns in recent years becoming more redolent of Pakistani than British towns.

UK government: Al Qaeda weakened, but terrorism still greatest threat to Olympics

The document stated that UK residents were among hundreds of European militants currently training or linked to jihadist groups in Pakistan and that al Qaeda operatives there had continued to try to send operatives back into Western countries.

For much of the period after 9/11, “the greatest threat to the UK has come from terrorist groups based in Pakistan,” the report stated.

Western militants trained or directed by Pakistani jihadist groups have been responsible for 53% of serious terrorist plots against the West since 2004,according to a new study I authored, published by the New America Foundation last week.
